1. Moved in June 2004 with a combined snag list of over 200 items
2. At present we still have no floor coverings upstairs due to unlevel
floors. We are facing a bill of ?3000 to pay for someone else to fix
the floors. Redrow are ignoring our phone calls and are refusing to pay
for floors to be fixed properly.
3. Downstairs floors have just been repaired for the umpteenth and we
have tiled the first room the past week. The hall floor has been
repaired approx 8 times and other concrete floors almost as many times
4. Have spent 16 months fighting with builders (At first they tried to
tell us that there was nothing wrong with our house)- Incurred
solicitors fees and time off work due to stress and had to take many
holidays to allow the builders access
5. We have been moved out of the house for over 2 weeks over 2 separate
periods to enable the builders to correct numerous faults including,
brickwork, floors, walls and major snag items. We have moved in and out
of the house 3 times! That is a lot of packing and unpacking.
6. We lived for a month after moving in were Redrow would visit every
day to fix the floors. We moved furniture from room to room to allow
them to do so.
7. We have been living in a bedroom for the last 16 months. We had to
cancel Christmas at our house last year and it looks as though we will
have to do that again.
8. We moved here to be happy after my fianc? had gone into remission
from Hodgkin’s disease (lymphatic cancer) to start a new life.
9. There are other houses on the estate with floor problems. We know of
3 houses and we have friends that experienced a major leak and have had
trouble getting Redrow to admit liability for damage caused.
10. Simple tasks seem beyond the builder. We spotted a number of faults
before we moved in such as, The driveway was too narrow for 2 cars, the
wrong kitchen was installed, the ceilings had been artexed.
11. An example of a silly fault and their incompetence- Sockets boxes
had screws that were not gripping to the wall. When this was repaired
the box behind tiles were damaged and the electrician tried to stick
the socket to the wall with silicon. He could not understand why we
were unhappy with this. A tiler & electrician had to call to repair
this fault. It took 3 attempts. That was 3 days waiting in for them to
fix 2 sockets.
CAN ANYONE HELP US? HOW DO WE GET THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING BY US SO
WE CAN GET ON WITH OUR LIVES?

Redrow Homes
I purchased a redrow home in oct 2010, only the other day Feb 20th 2011 did they complete my parking space. Now this might not seem major but fact I had my first baby in oct so we had to walk him over 200yards just to get him into the car. As a result I have had to pay for a change in my and my partners insurance policys which isnt really my fault – as we used to have are parking set on insurance to in a drive way. I contacted Suzanne Irons eastern sales director, she replied saying sorry for the hassle I;ve experiened but we wont help to pay towards the cost of insurance and she said that it was due to other third parties as to why it was so delays.
I wasnt even told the parking would be delayed into the DAY i moved in, and they told me it would be 2 weeks, then 2 months and then it turned out to be 5 months.
Be careful if you are buying a redrow home, they are rushed like mad and they are happy to move you in whilst its still being worked on. I havent been able to have one day lay in as the builders are right outside drilling slabs etc.
Please dont be fooled by their sales staff as they are just trying to get themselves some commision.
also the house is cracking up, and they do this on purpose as you have one month to sort out snags, problem is that the cracks will appear in 2 to 5 months time so your be buggered if you think they will help out. The snag visit we had was from the site foreman, he used to tell us hes coming on a day and then never turn up. All he done for the snags was slapped some paint over, and he didnt even finish that off.
DO NOT SIGN THE PAPER UNTIL YOU ARE 100% SURE EVERYTHING IS OK AS THEY WILL BE REALLY FRIENDLY AND POP ROUND ALL THE TIME – BUT ONCE YOY SIGN YOU NEVER HEAR FROM THEM AGAIN!
I purchased a Redrow home in July 2011. Since April 2012 I have had scaffolding round my house because the first floor blockwork wasn’t built properly. Redrow have refused to deal with the problem. I have had to employ my own structural engineer to explain why the upper story of my NEW HOUSE has cracking in the render. It transpirers that the mortar that was used to build the house has a mix ratio of cement to sand of 1 in 12/14 it should at the most be 1 in 5/6. They used the wrong re enforcing in the mortat beds of the blockwork. They used EML which rusts very quickly. They should have used Stainless steel re enforcing which wouldn’t rust and is stronger and more durable.
The NHBC have taken over the case from Redrow who washed their hands of my house (because they new they hadn’t built it properly. But the NHBC aren’t much better they came and took samples of the mortar 2 months ago and they claim they still haven’t had the results back yet. I sent off samples a wekk after the NHBC sent theirs, I’ve had mine back for a month. It seems the NHBC are as reluctant as Redrow to get this sorted. Having suffered this diabolical situation for nearly eighteen months with no resolution in sight, I would never buy a new house, and I would never buy a Redrow house again. Redrow and most of the big house builders are building houses with inferior materials and very poor workmanship. And there appears to be no one who is prepared to stop them. This situation is a ticking time bomb for the future, as most of these houses will not stand the test of time. And just like the concrete tower blocks from the sixties are being demolished, so I fear, will a lot the rubbish being built today suffer the same fate.
I left my previous comment on my Redrow nightmare in August 2013.We are now in September 2015, and still Redrow haven’t done a thing to rectify the defects to my house (of which there are many). Once they’ve got your money they couldn’t give a ******about you or the they sold you. There is no help for people in my position for any where (nhbc, local or national government even my MP can,t do anything to help). These builders are the biggest con artists out there. The only way we can stop them is to stop others buying their defective crap. If we can they’ll go bust, and I say good riddance to bad rubbish, they won’ be missed, and a lot of people will be saved a great deal of heart ache and stress.
Bought a house at kirks paddock had that many issues with bad workmanship two many to list .got issues still going on after 6 months i would have never bought a house of redrow if i had known any one thinking about buying a house of them dont be conned by all the bullshit they tell you when you go to ther show houses once they got your money there not intrested .
Redrow,
the biggest bunch of amateur house builders out there, works are sub contracted out to the “Best” price, corners are cut with the finish hoping the buyer doesn’t notice and defects are ignored,
The lender should put a retention on any new build property will ensure the cowboys come back to put right the poor quality workmanship and building defects.
Forget the National house builders. look for an independent who care!!
My biggest regret – Buying a Redrow house. I wouldn’t trust them with Lego!!
Redrow are completely shit, Mel Tounge is a sill bitch who has just been removed from a site in Worsley and moved elsewhere due to so many complaints. Elliot is the same he’s supposed to be a site agent but he may aswell be a guy who knocks on women’s doors only because that’s all he cares about women!!. You see him talking to some particular women and listening to them, but basically they are all crap with no customer focus or care at all. So many snags and we all get ignored.
Redrow homes are so unprofressional had lots of issues at Nightingale Gardens site in Leicester.
They use dodgy contractors who quote them a cheap price for a really poor finish, then cover up with big brand names.
Had over 200 snags and even after 2 years still not finished.
The biggest issue we have is being told house we bought is on a cul-de-sac only to find out its not.
Soon they will be on watchdog again.
I live on this development and i am having so many issues with Redrow… have you found anyone there who is helpful and willing to get matters sorted?
My neighbours and I are so fed up with their lack of response.
I think the residents should come together to write to the Ombudsman (?) and publically hold Redrow accountable for their unprofessionalism on all accounts!
Hi
I am thinking of purchasing a house at this site? Do you not recommend buying a house from redrow?
I don’t understand how a company as big as redrow should have bad customer service. I have seen many complaints and its putting me off. They should be ensuring every customer is happy- afterall people have just bought a house from them!
Any advice please let me know
Thanks
I hope so. Exactly the same experience. 200+ snags, many of which they keep on ignoring over a year on. We reported a leak weeks ago. Still no progress.
NB. This is our 5th or 6th internal leak!
I’m having very similar issues to everyone above. I’m trying to see if there is an ombudsman I can complain to as one of our biggest issues is the delays in sorting the snagging issues and their complete failure to respond to complaints despite their detailed complaints policy. Has anybody attempt to take further action against them? I think I will try to speak to a citizens advice.
I bought a Redrow home in 2018, and a year on there are many issues that still need resolving. The level of customer services has been appalling. Constantly being fobbed off.
Dear all, there is currently a petition on the paliament web site called ‘Implement the 10 recommendations of the APPG Inquiry Into Quality of New Homes.’ Given the number of people who complain about the quality of new homes it has surprisingly few signatures
Hi Hugh
Thanks for sharing this pettion – I had no idea. I’ve shared it with others i know who have new build issues… Lets hope we make it to the required number.
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/167660
Petition:
The poor quality of new homes is not new. (NHBC, Barker Review of 2004, Office of Fair Trading Market Study of Home Building in the UK October 2008, and more recently the APPG Inquiry 2016) Yet surprisingly, there has not been any legislation to force this industry to improve.
Around 93% of new home buyers (at least 100,000 a year) report problems to their housebuilder. Defects that could and should have been prevented. The APPG Report is quite clear, the industry needs to be forced to improve both the quality of new homes and the indifferent service suffered by those buying new homes.
As a minimum, the government must implement the APPG Inquiry’s “Key Recommendation” – the setting up of a New Homes Ombudsman by the DCLG within 3 months.
Unfortunately we have had a similar experience with Redrow in 2019.
We had a snag list with several hundred issues. Almost a year after we moved in Redrow are ignoring emails, calls, and messaged. Constantly being fobbed off.
In one example, Redrow acknowledged that they damaged our floor tiles over 6 months ago, but they have still not resolved the issue. We paid almost £5k for our flooring as we expected the best quality and aftercare, but frankly it’s been appalling. No escalation process as their ‘Head of Customer Service’ has left the business. That was months ago. Exasperated and appalled.
I feel so sorry for all these people that, like me, got duped by Redrow. Dedruff, as I prefer to call them, are a smokes and mirrors outfit and they fool buyers into thinking they are dealing with a 5 star builder. Everyone on our development has a sad story to tell. Dedruff’s policy is to make the houses look inviting from a distance but they lack quality control and their customer service is a cross between incompetence and deliberate obstructiveness. They know much more about bullshit advertising and burying bad reviews than they do about building houses. Had someone told me that I was expected to put up with a constant procession of trades people over 2 years whilst they replaced/made good everything, I would have run a mile.
This is not the house that Jack built. It is the house that Jack did his training on, before failing and going back to mopping floors at MacDonalds!
I bought a Redrow Freehold (Fleecehold) House in Congleton, it a gamble some of the houses appeared to have been built by semi skilled tradesmen who had been on a three week NVQ course. The site management appear to have taken instruction from their inexperienced workforce.
There were and still are so many build defects some serious
it would take a day to list them.
Their customer services have a reputation of being holograms, full of false hood promises and speak with fork tongues.
All I can do to help others looking for a new build house is tell them to look elsewhere, forget new builds.
which site in Congleton did you buy on?
The reason I ask is we have purchased a house on Cranberry Gardens and are waiting for it to be finished (April 2022)
REDROW WOODFORD CHESHIRE:
Just walk away, the sales office promise you a beautiful house once you sell yours (this is their condition or they will not sell or want to talk to you) but what they don’t tell you is that the houses simply are not available or its first come first served by “email” application off them when you don’t know if your email landed first or they offer the next available house to “Mr Victor Meldrew” who is always camped at their sales office harassing them so they give it him just so they can have an easy life!! We sold our house (as they insist) on the basis of the house we wanted being “imminently available” their terminology not mine after visiting their show homes, over 6 months on the “imminent” house still hasn’t been released or any foundations laid and will be an email lottery as to who gets it when it is, then there will be a 12 month build. We came in to their process after being hoodwinked, duped, fooled. Please DO NOT FALL for their sales patter, they want you sold, out of your house and as they say “Either renting or living with friends or family” just so they don’t get bogged down in a chain. If you sell your house and move out Redrow will be happy to see you homeless as the intended house purchase you wanted to make simply will not be available. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEIR SALES PATTER. They indicate you can have something that isn’t available and its all due to falsely promoting their houses and making them more desireable hence walloping up their prices, trust me their not cheap to deal with. Mostly it is a complete sham as the houses are not available – please DO NOT FALL IN TO THEIR TRAP – do your homework on them and read between the lines when the sales people are spieling out their rhetoric. They will happily mess both you and your potential buyer about and once the new house you thought you were going to buy isn’t available you’ll just be left with both an Estate agents & Solicitors bill once you realise they trapped you in to their game. DO NOT LISTEN TO REDROW – THEY OPERATE VERY SHARP PRACTICES and they are experts in it all you will get is stress, Stress & MORE STRESS with them – take my advice- WALK AWAY. Every time we visited the sales centre in Woodford or Chester there were residents complaining about concerns and snags they were having with their property, we had the lightbulb moment and WALKED AWAY – my advise is do the same, it makes life so much easier when Redrow are out of it.
