Residents Take Action Against Property Management Company Over Failed Maintenance at Shrewsbury Housing Development

Residents of a housing development in Shrewsbury have taken action against a property management company they claim has failed to fulfill its maintenance obligations. The homeowners in Sovereign Park, located in the Weeping Cross area, were surprised to discover that the housing estate was leasehold managed when they purchased their properties, and they now allege that the company responsible for maintenance, Residential Management Group Ltd (RMG), has not been carrying out the required work despite charging an annual fee.

According to the residents, they are being unjustly billed for services that have not been provided. Some residents have even chosen to withhold payment, but they have faced threats from debt collection agencies. In response, the residents have formed their own association to challenge the management company's actions.

Adrian Tacchi, chair of the new residents' association, highlighted the numerous shortcomings in the maintenance services. He stated that despite paying substantial sums, the management company has neglected essential tasks such as litter picking, tree pruning, road maintenance, and weed control. Tacchi emphasized that the company falsely claims that the work has been completed, hoping that the residents will not notice the lack of action.

Tacchi revealed that when he purchased his house five years ago for £250,000, he was unaware that the estate operated under a leasehold arrangement. He expressed his frustration, stating that they were deceived into buying properties without knowing that they would not own the land they were built on.

The discontent extends throughout the entire estate, which comprises approximately 200 homes. At the initial meeting of the residents' association, over 40 people attended to voice their concerns. Tacchi noted that some residents have received debt collection letters, indicating that the management company has been aggressive in pursuing unpaid fees. The residents are willing to pay the appropriate fees if the work is carried out as required, but they insist that the company must fulfill its obligations.
